Well today was the day for me, the first time of setting foot in the Wasdale Valley in over 5 1/2 years! Even after that time it has lost none of its allure and beauty for me. It was every bit as perfect as I remembered it. the only downsides were the weather, as the cloud was down covering the tops, and the wet and dampness that filled the air. But it was good to be back surrounded by those majestic mountains and watching the cloud, I say cloud as it was like one never ending big one all day long!
Sadly Dawn was not there to share the walk, but will be by the next time I visit.
This is shot looking across Wastwater Lake to the Wastwater Screes slowly being enveloped by the cloud base rolling in. It really is paradise, rain or shine, get yourselves there, you will not regret it, I promise.
Thank you so much for viewing this work, its not my best, I am really just sharing my excitement at being back in the valley I love!!
I nearly mentioned Scree running in the blurb and thought most people would think I was joking!! The first time I saw it done there, it was a fund raiser for the local air ambulance used by mountain rescue etc. They had to call the air ambulance out as someone had a really bad fall breaking bones etc running the scree!! Simon
I used to love it when I was young. The craziest one was with four friends, at the time I was in the RAF. We had climbed this volcano in Chile, it stood at some 12,000ft, and it had taken some 6 hours. Coming down, we scree ran some 4,000ft into a lake. It was the only safe way of slowing down. Honestly Simon, it's the scariest run I've ever done
