Why are some red? Is it blood?

The farmers on the fells around that area put a harness on the tups (male sheep) that contains a red substance. when the males mate with the ewes the dye from the harness marks them, that way the farmers know which of their ewes have been mated!!

Really interesting, Simon. I am far from farming, and I thought it was a kinda of artistic effect - the red somewhat matches the orange colors of the landscape. Thanks for the explanation. Just gorgeous, cute animals.

Svetlana thank you so much for your comment. the red on the sheep is an interesting story. The farmers on the fells around that area put a harness on the tups (male sheep) that contains a red substance. when the males mate with the ewes the dye from the harness marks them, that way the farmers know which of their ewes have been mated!!
